About David Beckett, Esq.

David Beckett has extensive experience in the field of labor and employment law, representing individuals and organizations. Before founding this law office, he was a partner at Mets, Schiro, McGovern in Iselin, New Jersey, and at Szaferman, Lakind in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.  

For more than 25 years, Mr. Beckett has provided representation to clients ranging from litigating disputes to providing legal advice, negotiating and drafting agreements, and strategic counsel. Mr. Beckett has represented clients in matters involving discrimination, whistleblowing, overtime and compensation claims, and has provided solutions that resolve labor and employment disputes.   

Mr. Beckett has negotiated collective bargaining agreements and successfully litigated and resolved grievances, arbitrations, and unfair labor practice cases. He is a seasoned litigator who has prevailed in jury trials involving employment discrimination and contract claims, and successfully litigated violations of overtime provisions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Mr. Beckett has successfully represented clients before administrative agencies including the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission, the Civil Service Commission, and the Office of Administrative Law, as well as in State and Federal courts. 

In his capacity as Director of the Office of Employee Relations in Governor Jon S. Corzine’s administration, Mr. Beckett counseled the Governor on labor issues and negotiated and enforced labor agreements between the State and the State’s 50,000+ public employees. He worked to develop and implement reforms, including a mediation program and procedures aimed at reducing delays in the processing and resolution of disciplinary matters involving law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and civilian employees.

Mr. Beckett is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and was awarded his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles. Upon graduation, he began his career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Alan B. Handler, a Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Mr. Beckett has taught courses in labor and employment at the Union Leadership Academy at Rutgers University, and has spoken on topics ranging from workplace rights to health benefits reforms.

Peter B. Paris is an experienced and talented attorney who devotes his considerable skill to devising effective strategies to achieve his clients’ goals.

Mr. Paris represents public- and private-sector employees in labor and employment actions and disputes. He specializes in defending the rights of law enforcement officers and representing employees in employment disputes, disciplinary hearings, arbitrations, and negotiations. 

He is an experienced litigator who has successfully pursued claims involving whistleblowing under the Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA) and discrimination under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD) and other statutes.

As an attorney in Washington D.C., Mr. Paris gained valuable experience and training in internal affairs work, supervising investigations.  In addition, he represented individual and corporate clients of two major law firms in Washington, D.C., in complex employment litigation before returning to New Jersey to continue his litigation and labor practice in his home state. 

Mr. Paris’s background in law enforcement, coupled with his training and work, provides invaluable insight on behalf of his clients whether they have been accused of misconduct, seek to negotiate better contracts, or otherwise require a passionate and effective advocate to pursue their rights and protect their interests. 

Mr. Paris appears regularly before Municipal, State, and Federal Courts in New Jersey, as well as before administrative agencies, including the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC), the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Office of Administrative Law (OAL).  Mr. Paris is a member of the Bars of New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.  He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Stanford University School of Law.

The Law Office of David Beckett is located 500 feet from the intersection of Mapleton Road and Route 1 South in a historic yellow office building near the Millstone River outside of Princeton, NJ.  It is across Route 1 from the new Princeton Medical Center. 

For GPS or online directions, we recommend that you type in the office’s address as: 5 Mapleton Road, Plainsboro, NJ.

The mailing address is Princeton, but using Plainsboro for your GPS typically results in more accurate directions.

From Trenton
Proceed north on Route 1, past Harrison Street and past the first Scudders Mill Road exit, and follow the sign for the U-Turn for Mapleton Road.  It will lead you to an overpass that will cross Route 1 and lead you onto Route 1 South, where you will stay in the extreme right lane, which is the exit lane for Mapleton Road. 

A Marriott Courtyard and Ruby Tuesday are on the right. Turn right onto Mapleton Road. You will see the yellow Benjamin Gray House, in which David Beckett Law is located, approximately 500 feet from Route 1 on the right-hand side of Mapleton Road. There is a parking lot on the side. 

From Philadelphia via Route 95 North
Take 95 north into New Jersey, continuing for several miles to the exit for Route 1 North. Proceed north on Route 1 for approximately 4-5 miles. Follow Directions above from Trenton. 

From Philadelphia and Southern NJ via the NJ Turnpike
Take the NJ Turnpike north to Exit 7A of the Turnpike. Take Route 195 West for several miles, to Route 295 North ("Princeton") to Route 1 north. Take Route 1 north approximately 4-5 miles. Follow directions above from Trenton. 

From New York and Northern New Jersey
Take Exit 9 of the NJ Turnpike onto Route 18 West (for only a short time), looking for signs for route 1 south/Trenton. Stay on Route 1 for approximately 20 minutes. As you reach the Princeton area, you will pass Forrestal Village on the right, then Scudders Mill Road. Move into the extreme right lane; Mapleton Road will be the first right-hand turn, just past the Marriott Courtyard and Ruby Tuesday. Turn right onto Mapleton Road. David Beckett Law is on the first floor of the yellow Benjamin Gray House, about 500 feet from Route 1 on the right side of Mapleton Road.

From the Somerville Area
Take Route 206 south toward Princeton. Turn left onto Route 518 East through Rocky Hill. Turn right onto Crescent Ave. for 0.4 miles and right onto Kingston Road for 400 feet before continuing on River Road (Route 605) for 1.8 miles into Kingston. Turn right onto Route 27 for 0.3 miles and make a left onto Academy Street. Follow Academy Street to the first traffic light, turning right onto Mapleton Road. Follow Mapleton Rd. toward Route 1 south; from the point where you have turned right onto Mapleton Rd, it is 1.6 miles to the location of David Beckett Law, on the left, in the yellow office building at 5 Mapleton Road.

From the New Jersey Shore
Take the Garden State Parkway to the exit for Route 195 West. Stay on Route 195 west to Route 295 North ("Princeton") and stay on it until its intersection with Route 1 north.
